I being left behind I did not go with my regiment
the time they moved from New Port News, but came
another road I have been to the extream right
of the line allso to the left. Our troops extend for
10 miles all around Yorktown. I have passed over
the ground where the ermortal Washington
fought the battle of Yorktown. I have also
passed through Big Bethjel. Thear the enemy
could have bothered us considerable as thear
is between 25 & 50 breastworks though up.
I have been quite sick in fact so bad that I
had to go to the hospital. This I told you
nothing about as I thought being Ma was
sick it mite wory her but now I am all
right once more and feal first strate.
It may be some time before you receive this
letter as the mall is verry errigular and every
thing is up side down. We half to go 22 miles
for our provisions and the roades is so bad it
takes 3 or 4 days to go and come and it makes
things very disergreable. As our rations comes
very irregular we have went with 1 ½ biscuts
for a hole day but yet we are in good spearits
and eager to meat the enemy let come what
will. Clarra not forgetting to receive a dew
share your self. I received a letter from John
the day before yesterday he and famerly was
well. I am exceadingly glad to learn though
your kind letter that Ma is so she can
come to the table and eat once more with you.
I suppose Ma will miss Ann Louisa now
as she is married. I hope this war will soon
be at its end but let it last as long as it will.
I hope the administration will except of
no compremise while there is a armed enemy
in existance agantes it. I hear it rumered
that they entend to burn Richmond. I hope
they will not do it for God knows they
have burned anuff already in Virginia.
If they keep on burning as they have God
ownly knows what is to be come of them.
