Henry, Ill. Jan. 14th 1861

My dear Father

                Your letter of the 24th ulto came to hand

a few days ago. In accordance with your request I

herewith enclose my due bill to you for amt of my in-

debtedness to you & int in the same to  Jany 1/61 ($3676,17).

I also enclose the 3 notes given by me to Richd Lloyd Esq

May 28 & May 30/66, the 1st for $200 & the two others for

$220 each, which were assigned by him to you & which

have since been held by me for you. These 3 notes draw 6%

int from date to maturity, & 10% after maturity. The inte-

rest on said 3 notes up to Jany 1/61 is $250.92, which, togeth-

er with the principal, makes $890.92. Consequently my whole

indebtedness to you up to Jany 1/61 is $4567.09, & this is repre-

sented by the enclosed notes. I also enclose 6% current

for the year 1860, which I hope you will find correct

& satisfactory. I also enclose a statement of my own assets

& liabilities, so that you may know exactly what means

I have of meeting my debts to yourself & others. I do

not think the value of the lands mentioned in the state-

ment is at all overestimated. They would have brought

more than that 3 years ago certainly. In consequence of the

unsettled question of political affairs, there is but little demand

for land at this time. Its future value will of course depend

upon the solution of the questions, which now agitate the coun-

try. As I wish to copy this page in my letter book, I shall close this letter

& open another upon a second sheet.
