My dear Father

Mr Ginn has just reached here with the letters & bundles from sister Rebecca & yourself.  I take advantage of a moment’s leisure before advancing with the reinforcements towards Martinsburg, to say that I am still perfectly well, & ready I trust to do my duty in the approaching engagement.  None of the men in our company were injured in yesterday’s engagement.  The Continentals lost two men.  With a heart full of the warmest affection for yourself, dear Mother, & the girls, I am

                                    Your affectionate son
