Richmond 6 Jan 1861

                 I have just a moment

 my beloved wife to write

a line to tell you that I am

quite well.  I got upon

friday & found the steamer

decorated with flags in my

honor.  Great honor surely.

I heard of you all the way up

& was much pleased that

you were not delayed, altho'

the weather was very bad.

    I hope my dearest wife

that you experienced no inconven-

-ience  from your journey &

that you found my beloved

 Marianne, the dear children

& Mr. Wilmer all well.

     Affectionate love & regards

and every thing  kind to all of them.

    I have not yet seen

Mr.  Jno Gilmer.

    D. Cabell is married! I saw

him last night & congratulated

him. He affected not to

know what I meant, but I

merely repeated it and he

 said "Oh! yes, I was

 married the other night."-

    I have not seen Peggy

but was sent for  to dine

there to day &  am going

immediately.

     I have not heard from

Lelia - of course.  I write

 to her by this mail.

    With kindest remembrances

to my friends- Gilmer- Whittler -

Coles.  &c. I must conclude

                        Ever yours  RS

          Mrs.  Saunders
