Madam,
I respectfully acknowledge, the
receipt of your note of the _ [?], bring to the
delay, and uncertaintainty in the Post office Dept. in this
city, it was very slow in reaching me. I communicated
with Capt Christian, through his brother, and was
referred to Mr M Thompson, to accertain the amount
of his due Dr Coleman, for services rendered the
Confed. State, by his slaves. Mr Thompson informs
me, that he received the papers from Capt C, and
forwarded them to Dr. C. for his signature &c. and
that, he does not recollect the exact amount.
A few days before your letter came to hand,
I received a Power of Attorney from Dr C to
draw the money; accompanied by a request
that I would deposit it to your credit, and notify
you of the fact. The money cannot be drawn
until the account sent to Dr C. is returned
to the person selected by him, to receive the hire.
I will write to the Dr on the subject.

The mail has just come, bringing me some letters, one of them yours
of the 17th forwarded from Richmond. I will gladly attend
to that matter for you rejoicing that you desire promotion, for
I have always felt mortified that you had not fell rank and
the full pay will be very desirable just now. The matter I think ["I think" underlined]
I can manage in a manner satisfactory to you. Send me
one of your collars to Clarksville When you think I have
reached there- About the shirts- I will see what I can [underlined]
do. The papers referred to by Hopkins, were sent some
time ago by Montague to me. Thinking them [?]
=[?] with a Power of Attorney I did not forward them
for your signature. I send them now for you to attend
to immediately [underlined]. Montague writes the road is now
in good order and that I can go home. Charley's
whooping cough embarrasses my return a good deal.
I don't know where to stop until I can be sent for
from Clarksville to the Depot. Cousin Lizzie writes
me she has had her eyes examined and has she
fears a film forming over one, she seems much
depressed and justly so. She gives a dreadful
account of Nannie's attacks now, and had to
ask Miss Lizzie to go some where else, it made
her so nervous to hear her in the night. Miss
L- takes her [?] there still.
