                                Williamsburg  27. July 1865.

My dearest wife,     I have just a moment to

write a line by Mr. Charles Waller whose

departure for Richmond has been suddenly

determined  upon by him.         I have so

many things upon my mind that I cannot

begin, in this hurried letter, to express them.

I write merely to inform you that

I am well and safe.  I do not even know

whether you will get this letter.

I left Danville on the day after  I

left you, came to Richmond & staid there

one day, arriving here on the following

day.  I staid the first night with

Mr. Sweeney who left home for Richmd.

on the following morning, & I then ac-

-cepted one of numerous invitations   viz

Charles Waller's, where I am.     I have

seen many friends- all of whom are

well.  Servants very kind.

Love to my dearest children  & grand children

& all friends.  The hack is coming & I

must stop.      Ever  yr.  R.S.
