Mr Gordons May 28th 1862
My Dear Father
I have been waiting here
for something to turn up for more
than a week. I saw Uncle John
Powell last Saturday who said that
he thought he could get a very
good situation for me as clerk
to a friend of his, a Major Vann[?]
who is in the Commissary Department
I have heard since, that Major
Vann [?] has left Gordonsville and
gone somewhere on the Danville
Road. Uncle John said that
he would write to him
in the mean while, what
do you think of my taking
a trip to Winchester to see
what is left of your Furniture.
If you think I had better
go you must send me some
money for Expenses as I am
strapped. I stopped a day at
Greenwood and saw Mr.
Fauntleroy who says that he
has not seen Mr. Martin
who has the order from

Govnt nor does he know
where he is, that he thought
he would find out, and would write
to your from Greenwood. I told
him to write to you as I
did not know where I would
be. I have not seen anything
of Bob Powell or my Boots yet
I wrote to Sister Bec the other
day and will write to Sister
Hat soon. What is Ma's
direction! I am very much
disappointed again that I
was not with Jackson in
his last fight. My luck!
however We are all very
well and anxious to hear
of a fight near Richmond.
