                              Your expected letter arrived yesterday and i

I was so pleased to hear from your cousin Jennet, and I received

A letter yesterday from Basset enclosed in one from Mr Bagnal

To your Ma, she had received one from your Ma the day before

She wrote, Father had lost two of his young negro men and was

Fearing others would leave, the Yankees had been to the house in town several times but had disturbed nothing; She asked me to thank you for your (?) to her in Mr  Bagnal’s and said she appreciated the thoughtfulness highly.  You are anxiously waiting to hear from the children they are both improving though much thinner than when they left home Jennie was quite cheerful today and amused herself this afternoon sometime, something she has not done before for more than a week she has kept Julie or myself holding her all the time and would want to sleep in Mama’s lap; Little Annie begins to take a good deal of notice.  I think I like Dr Skinner better than Howard he seems to understand children’s diseases better he is very pleasant and kind the baby and I took a nice ride yesterday evening in his carriage with two other ladies he said the ride would be good for the “----“ as he calls her.  Your Ma took a pleasant ride this evening with Mr. Wilcox and Capt. Musa’s family.

Quite a number of pleasant ladies have called to see us

They all seem kind.  If you see Lou again tell her to write

To me, and you must tell me something of Mother and Clay

and the children.  Mr & Mrs Wilcox are very kind and Mr.

Wilcox has an unmarried sister who is particularily kind and

attentive.  I shant be able to hold out to the bottom of the

Page as it is getting late and my eyes are inflamed.

   I had almost forgotten to tell you of a great annoyance I

fear very much that Julia is not in a condition to  nurse the

Children much longer, I have said nothing to her about it your

Ma things it is so, and I think there is scarcely a doubt of it

I don’t know what I shall do I have not mentioned it to Mr.

Jones yet.  I must say good night take care of yourself in

Williamsburg. Again good night and God bless and protect you and ------ speedily in the prayer of your devoted wife Annie
