                        Commandants Office, ---- Navy Yard

My dear little Wife,

I have very little to say & not

much time to say it in, the most important part-

to you being, that I am very well.  On Sunday

I attended service & heard a noble discourse from Mr.

Weir?.  He treated his text like a poet.  I don’t mean

he was fluid, but strikingly original very impressive

I felt better after listening to him, & hope I shall continue

to grow gooder & gooder every day.

I am very comfortable at Aunt M’s, have the

snuggest sort of a room with a great “wardroom“,

big enough for you to keep house in  almost.

& feel more like being at home than I ever expected

away from it.

Tell mamma, if I forgot it in my letter of

Yesterday, that Mr. B, says he has sent on the

draught &as Mrs. Barron has gotten hers, I

suppose it wont be long before hers is forth

coming.

I have not been able to write Mrs Lacy

yet, but will I hope get Capt B’s & hers

back tomorrow or next day.  I get up every

Morning – ever so soon & by way of amusement

March up to my office by 7 – what do

you think of this?  Now, tell me all

about the darling chicks, what they do –

& if W. gets more sickly you had better

go to [illegible].

            Havent time [to write more?]

God bless you all, [illegible] & [illegible]

                                    Affy yours,

                                           James
