                                                                                               Camp near "North Pole"

Alias "Leesburg Va" Nov 29th 1861

Miss Powell . . . I was, on yesterday morning thrown into an ecstacy of pleasure by the reception of a Package, including a letter and cap. - a present from you, the most pleasant thought connected with which, was that the invalid soldier was not forgotten.  I hope you will believe me, when I say that I will value the cap, as much as the most inestimable friend I have.  My Company is on Picket duty

[2]

at the "Big Spring", near Mr. Grays, (but I did not call on the family), for these weeks since the Leesburg fights.  Miss Powell till the roar of musketry, rattle of Grape shot, and explosion of shells made such a din, that all thought of anything absent from the field, was driven from my mind, I thought only of you, on the 22nd Oct.

I hope you will pardon a ______________ to a subject, which is probably disagreeable to you, but was your decision, in your previous communication to me, an irrevocable one?

Again, thanks for the Cap, valuable to me because constructed by Miss Powell.  May I hope to have the honor of again reading some of your interesting correspondence?

                                                                                                Very Respectfully

                                                                                                            George Finley
