                My Dear Sir

                                                                                                The enclosed resolutions are

under the consideration of the Faculty. There is

a strong wish on their part to acknowledge in

a becoming manner your handsome liberality to

the College. & this whether you continue the donation or not. They are

sent for your criticism & approval. If

it is your intention to extend further what, since

the burning of the College, you have been doing, not

that you have not already done more than

could have been claimed- or expected- &

if you wish to have whatever else you may give

[expounded?] in the manner indicated. Have

the goodness & send me with the resolutions.to write-requesting such a

disposition to be made-or better still-noting

that your subscription The Literature in what you [profess?] is for the Library-and

also the time during which you will probably

[entertain?] the gift-that the faculty may be

able to judge as to the number of books it will

be judicious to purchase.

Williamsburg-Jan 30th 1861. Yours sincerely- Benj, S, Ewell-

Dr John, M, Galt-
