Depositions of [witnesses?] taken before us [Mr? Wm?] Jones
[Mr?] Henry and [Mr?] Patton Justices of said
County now [setting?] upon the examination of
James [Harker?] suspected of Lunacy
The deposition of [Ezekiel?] Harker of the age
of 81 Years a resident of Brook County Virginia
Ques What is Patients age & where born
Ans He is 68 Years old & born in Gloucester County New Jersey
Ques Is he married &c
Ans was once but has no family
Ques What are his habits &c
Ans Always [Temperate?]—is a shoemaker-no
[Profanity? Property?] at all any where
Ques How long since indications of insanity [appeared?]
Ans Quite a number of Years perhaps about twenty
Ques What [are? were?] they
Ans He imagined himself the Pope & [doubt on?]
The doctrine of Trans [migration?]
Ques Does his disease appear to increase
Ans It does
Ques Has he any lucid intervals
Ans Cannot say
Ques Is his derangement [evinced?] on one or more Subjects
Ans On but one that is his own [identity?]
Ques what is the Supposed Cause
Ans Never heard any
Ques Any change in his bodily health
Ans None
Ques Any former attack
Ans None. I have known him from his childhood
do not know of any of his [connexions?] that [ever? were?]
[?] insane. He is my nephew. Never knew
him to be under any medical treatment for his insanity
I consider him too greatly deranged in mind to go at
large or take care of himself and ought to be confined
in an asylum
He has no property of any kind in this or any other
State. he has been in this State for twenty Years
off & on for twenty odd years. He has has his
home mainly at [Burgdtstown?] Pennsylvania
and would work [?] mostly.
Doctor [E.H. Moon?] Deposed & says,
I have examined the Patient James
Harker now present & [Charged?] as a lunatic
In my professional view he is a monomaniac
-is a fit subject for an asylum & should be
confined therein I have practiced medicine in
Brook County for twenty years.
The forgoing depositions of Ezekiel Harker
