My dearest Son. Your Kindness of charging the Duke of York with the Commifsion of acquainting me with the intended Alliance between Your Daughter & the Hereditary Prince of Orange calls for my most gratefull acknowledgement. _ My Congratulations upon this Event You will not doubt to be Sincere when I say underlined May this Union prove to be as Happy as Your own hath been Fatal. foreign: french C'est tout dive en peut de mots /foreign /underlined.
I will not deny that the Sudden Conclusion of so serious an Event did Surprise me a litte but when I recollect that the Proposal addition does /addition arise from the same Quarter addition from which ^ /addition You received a very differnt one before I believe by comming into this, You have prevented much distrefs to Yourself, & deletion unclear /deletion however it may turn out in the End You can have nothing to reproach Yourself with.
