                                                                                                                                            This is
to certify that W.N.C. Morecock, Esq. was indeed
in detached service in the December of 1864 with
Major John Brantin(?), by General R.S. Ewell, then
in Command of Richmond & its vicinity, and remained
on this duty until the end of the War.  While
on this service, he was requested by the James City
Artillery to become their 1st Lieutenant. that position
was being filled at the time, & an appreciation was
forwarded & recommended by Gen. Ewell, to the War Department
& it would certainly have been favorably acted on, had
not the war terminated soon after it was received
by the War Department.
