Savannah, Nov 4th 1874
My dear John
Yours of the 29th October
is just received.
I am very glad you have
made the arrangement with Mrs. Fields
to enclose our little grave yard.
Brother Peter’s bill at the
"Colonnade" was paid up to September
30th, and the receipt given him. I
saw it in his hands.
I will pay his board
regularly, monthly. Can’t you tell
him that we will do this by rais-
ing money on his claims if he
will give them to you to collect?
This for his comfort. I shall pay
his board bills any how. Although
I am afraid somebody may borrow
the money while he is crossing the
street to settle. In that event,

of [crossed out] if there is such a danger, I will
get Dan T. to make the payments.
I will pay also, whatever rent may be
due on his room now – or when he
leaves it. If you or Dan will let me
know the sum due.
In a letter just received by Lily
from Jane, she writes that all the
comfortable rooms at Triggs are now
occupied. So that Brother Peter can
not get quarters there at present.
But that the T’s expect to take
one of the larger hotels, where
they can lodge him.
It is a matter of course that
I pay Brother P’s board bills, whatever
he may consent to in relation to
his claims in Abingdon or Lee.
Yours truly
J. E. Johnston
