My dear lady Charlotte We have been here ever since a quarter before eleven this morning & since that moment out at Sea till seven o Clock. of all days of my life this is the one that I may indeed call the proudest, for in my life such a sight I never saw before; The day was quite perfection in every sense of the word, & the Grand appearance of the Ships surpassses all description; when we went on board the Admirals Ship the Queen Charlotte the King gave Lord addition Howe /addition with his own hand a most magnificent Sword with a most flattering Sentence engraved on the hilt "viz " Delivered 'in person by His Majesty, on board the "Queen Charlotte June 26th 1794 to Earl Howe as a mark of his approbation on the signal Victory of June 1st 1794.
