Williamsburg Monday 12 Sept 1862
Your letter arrived in proper time, my
beloved wife, and administered joy in the as-
-surance of the continued health of your-self
& our darling children. I suppose you have
before this received my letter by Mr. Bright
& of course seen him & little Robert.
I hope you will not permit him or indeed any
of the children to exact too much of your at-
-tention; but that you direct your chief at-
-tention to yourself. I am exceedingly grate-
-ful to Mrs. Wickharn for her kind politeness.
I have no doubt you spent a delightful
time at her elegant mansion. If it should
occur to you I wish to be presented partic-
-ulary to Mr. W. & herself.
It remains quite well healthy but in exces=
-sively hot. This is the hottest day of this
year I think; the thermometer is at 90
in our passage - about the coolest place in
town. I hope you heard from
B. & that she is well. Give my love to
my darlings & tell them I long to see them.
Peter & the cats are quite hearty.
The servants send remembrances. Tell
Rebecca that her husband is well - her daughter
was well when heard from.
I have several letters to write for the
mail & must therefore my dearest wife
bid you farewell, Ever your own
RS.
