My dear General

From the many instances of your friendship with which I have been honored, I am bid to flatter myself, you will forgive my vanity, in transmitting you an extract of a letter I have just rec'd from St. Lucia Indeed my dear General I am not a little proud of my conduct on the 29th of April whatever may be thought of it in England The unclear is getting under sail, therefore can only add I am, with every sentiment of truth & affection, most faithfully yours
