ye. 2d. Act was properly a Land-Tax of 3s. in the pound, but the Sum to be raised assertained & ye. proportions paid by each town & county fixed with a view to Suppy the great defficiencies that happened in the Land-Tax of the preceeding year; upon this Fund was charg'd £850,000. lent between Oct. 1697. & April 1698. with 8. pr. Ct. interest & arrears; upon tis fund also ye. Crown was enabl'd to borrow £1,400,000. at 8. pr. Ct.

ye. 3d. Act laid an additional duty of 5s. per Tun & 7s & 6d. per Chauldron upon all Coal imported from Scotland or beyond Sea, & 5s. per Chauldron, & 3s & 4d pr. Ton on Coals carried from one part of the Kingdom to another, & 1s. per Chauldron upon Culm carried by Water; this tax was impos'd for 5. years from 1698. & was a hard one upon London & other parts, & as no additional catchword Tax /catchword
