82. I. To divide 100 into two parts which shall be to one another as 5 to 3. x = the least part. 100-x=greatest. x:100-x::3:5. formula Therefore greatest part = 62 1/2.

Or thus let the greatest = 5x The least underline = 3x /underline 8x = 100 formula Therefore the greatest = 62 1/2. And the least = 37 1/2.
