                          June 1861
Wednesday 26th  Wind S. Cloudy in mg & a very good rain about Sun Rise
                Clear from 10.o.clk till Evg then a Thunder cloud but no rain
                In Harvest. Mr Goggin & Bet here in Evg - Very hot
Thursday 27     Wind S. Clear, Finished Cutting & Shocking
                Wheat - Warner went to the Court house, he
           there learned that the Firing Monday was the house
           of a Mr Gresham in Lancaster County. It seems a
           Party of the enemy had landed in boats at his house from a Steamer,
           they were attacked by a "Home Guard" stationed near
           there and some three or four of them killed & wounded
           the rest got to the ship and fired seventy odd shots & shell
           destrying Gresham's house and other property
Friday 28  Wind SE. Clear in mg & very hot. a Thunder cloud in Evg &
           a fine rain, I gave my hands holiday
           Maria and the children went to Belle Farm in m.g. -
Saturday 29 Wind SE. Rain in m.g. Cloudy in Ev.g. Shelled Corn
           Grubbed bushes & put up fence blown down by the wind
Sunday 30  Wind SE. Cloudy, Rained from 1 o.clk till 5 o.clk
           I went to Gloster Point to meet Louisianna soldier accidentally
           shot by Henry Sinclair, to bring him home & nurse him, He did
           not come
           the weather being too bad. I dined at Belle Farm, Maria & the
           children there
