deletion The Article is a word prefixed to Substantives, to show how far their signification extends./deletion

In English there are but two Articles, underline a /underline and underline the /underline, underline a /underline becomes underline an /underline before a Vowel or a silent h.

underline A /underline is used in a vague sense to point out one single thing of the kind, in other respects indeterminate, underline the /underline determines what particular thing is meaned therefore the former is called the indefinite, the latter the definitive Article.

+ A Substantive without any Article to limit it, is taken in its widest sense, thus Man means all mankind. The definitive Article underline the /underline is sometimes applied to Adverbs in the Comparative and Superlative degree, to mark them the more strongly & to define them the more precisely as the more I examine it the better I like it. and I like this the best of any.

addition + It is proper also to observe that /addition + deletion besides /deletion underline a /underline determines the thing spoken of to be of the singular number, and

underline the /underline of the Plural.

There is one remarkable exception to this rule in the use of the Adjectives

underline few /underline & many, which though joined

with Plural Substantives admit of the Singular Article, a few Men, a great many Men; the reason of this is evident from the effect the article has in these phrases it means a smaller unclear number collectively taken, unclear the idea of Unity
