12. Exeter College founded 1316. by Walter Stapleton Bishop of Exeter, Lord Treasurer of England and Secretary of State to Edward II. for thirteen Fellows, originally called Stapleton Hall, obtained its present name from Edmund Stafford Bp of Exeter in 1404. who added two Fellowships. Many other benefactors extended the foundation, the most memorable of whom is Sir Wm. Petre Kt. who 1566. founded eight Fellowships, and Charles I. added a Fellowship for the Island of Jersey and Guernsey. It consists now of a Rector, twenty five Fellows, a Bible Clerk, and two Exhibitioners the Students amount to fifty. Visitor BP. of Exeter

14. Jesus College founded 1571. by Queen Elizabeth for a Principal, eight Fellows, and eight Scholars. Sir Eubule Thelwall Kt. formerly Principal encreased the Fellows and Scholars to SIxteen. It now consists of a Principal, Nineteen Fellows, Eighteen Scholars, many Exhibitioners and Independent Students, amounting in the whole to about Ninety Visitor Earl of Pembroke.
