George the second, by the Grace of God: King of Great Britain,France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith & c To Our most Dearly Beloved Son William Duke of Cumberland Greeting: We reposing especial Trust and Confidence in your Loyalty Courage and Experience in Military Affairs do by these Presents constitute and - appoint you, the said William Duke of Cumberland; to be Lieutenant General of all and singular Our - Forces, as well Horse as Foot, employed or to be employed in Our Service; you are therefore carefully to - discharge the said Trust of Lieutenant General, by doing all Things thereunto belonging. And We do hereby command all Our Officers and Soldiers that are or shall be employed in Our Service to obey you as their Lieutenant General; and you are to observe and follow such orders and Directions from time to time as you shall receive from us, or any your superior officer, according to the Rules and Discipline of War in pursuance of the Trust We hereby repose in you. Given at Our Head Quarters at Hanau the Twenty Eighth Day of June O.S. 1743. in the Seventeenth year of Our Reign.
