this Country:- The Administration of that Time, which consisted of Men of Tory Principles, though they had a great majority in the House of Commons, and generally carried Things with a very high Hand, could not obtain the Approbation of the House to this Measure, and the Opposition, supported by all the great trading Companies, and many of the principal Merchants of Metropolis, rejected the Bill for giving Effect to these Articles, and carrying them into Execution: The Treaty therefore remained unexecuted, and was in effect rescinded- From this Period, the Commerce of this Country with France continued without any Commercial Regulation whatever, 'till in consequence of the 18th.
