Dear Sir,

Yours of 18th instant and its' various enclosures reached me this morning and I now return enclosed the proper papers signed. I am very sorry to learn poor Bennett has been so seriously indisposed. He is as you justly observe an excellent servant and I trust your next will inform me of his recovery. I am not surprized the floor in the Maid's Hall and Butler's Pantry is so bad and I wish Slade had the orders to begin on the parts of the house.
