Books are cold, veratious in their sparringness of information at one time, & their impertinent unclear at another, --besides all they chuse to give at once; --they allow no questions offer no further Explanation, & bend not to the caprices of curiosity. underline they talk to us behind a screen, /underline their tone is lifeless & monotonous, they charm not the attention by mute significances of gesture & looks, --they spread no light upon their meaning by cadences, & Emphasis, & pause.--
