1.  A short History Account of Spain. from the earliest  times to the year 1522.  Spain was antiently known by the names  of Hisperia & Iberia; its Inhabitants liv'd in  quiet, being one side defended by the sea,  & on the other by the Pyrenean Mountains;  their Manners were simple at first, but even  before Commerce or Wards introduc'd Vices, they  show'd a natural presumptuousness, & pride;  were tir'd of their possessions, & jealous; bore  fatigue & hunger well, & were so averse  to inaction, that they often shorten'd their  Lives by the sword or Poison when age or bad  health reduc'd them to it; they were sometimes  barbarous in War, but ever hospitable to  Strangers; so attach'd to their sovereigns that  the kill'd themselves not to survive them;  were secret, faithful, haughty, & courageous;  lov'd expensive Cloathings, but in all other  respects avaricious.
