4. with the second observ'd the D. of Alba posted near St. John de Pid-de-Port; & Albert with the third took Rargui, which enabl'd either to March to the Capital that must have surrender'd, or seize the Narrow passes that would have confin'd the Spaniards between him & the D. of Angouleme; He here Show'd his natural Slowness & irresolution; which allow'd the D. of Alba to change his position, the badness of the weather, the arrival of the D. of Majarus with a reinforcement to the Ennemy, & the Albert met with in two Assaults, oblig'd him to retire; Lewis XII. would have again probably sent Troops into Navarre, had he not requir'd all his forces against the English in Picardy.

This Kingdom remain'd therefore under note A. 1516. /note the Spanish Yoke, till the death of Ferdinand, when Francis I. sent Albert again with an Army, which he very injudiciously divided into three Corps, that were seperately defeated, & from want of vigilance, his Avant Guard & Main body fell into an Ambuscade; He did not long survive these Misfortunes,
