Richmond Nov 13 1862

I write you a few lines My Darling Wife
to say that I am still here, & will not leave
for some days yet. I got Dr. Carrington
(in the absence of Dr. [?]) to examine my arm
and he advises me not to begin my command
before the 1st of Dec. The arm is still very sore
and Dr. C is satisfied that the ball is in the
arm. Phil has resigned; his resignation
has been accepted, and the place is
now waiting for Tom - Tell him if he will
accept it to come at once – as I do not
like to make the offer before learning from
him that he would come at once as he
will thereby secure pay & rank.
Maj [Caron] was here yesterday [?]
[?] by his affection. He leaves for
the army next week – Mason goes off
tomorrow as he is obliged to report for duty.
Y A Falter is better, attending the Court of
Appeals – Major May are at [illeg?].
Mrs L goes up tomorrow –
She is better but still unwell. Cousin
Sally & [?] are in town – all well at
Abbot Hill – Phil goes to Rapidan
Tomorrow – The paper of the 11th from the

North have been received at Fredericksburg
They state that McClellan has been super
seded by Burnside, because the former would
not advance & was [compliceted] in the affair at
the arsenal of Harpers Ferry –
That the Meers Council (of Ministers) which
was to have met on the 23rd also was indef-
inetely post poned. & that the dispatches of
the French Emperor & the US Govt which
created some excitement and speculation turn-
ed out to be only a small affair connected
with Butler’s conduct w French Citizens at
N Orleans, and that recognition was not
brought up – They also state however that
Lord Lyons returned in the Scotia and
that he is to be in Richmond in ten days
and that Cameron the U.S Minister to Russia
returned in the same ship and reports that
the English Parliament will after its
meeting the latter part of this month
interefere [underlined] – This news was received Less
three hours ago. , (Mon 5 ½ P.M.) & since
that time I have seen a gentleman connect
ed with the Treasury who told me
that he heard ^a gentleman^ who was coming out of the War
Dept say to an acquaintance, that Mr.
Randolph had just (5 O’clock) told him
that he had been recognized by all the

European Powers – I have not time
before the mail closes to investigate the
[?]. God grant it may be so.
Though many think it will not close
this war but stimulate the North to
extraordinary exertions.
I saw Mr Boleter Genl Jackson’s aid
who has just come down, I addressed with
him about my going back & advised against
it. He says Genl Jackson understands it
and that he has heard Genl J often speak
in exalted terms of me – Yet I feel
badly at permitting a wound which is
not severe keeping me away from the Army.
I shall not be able to get the
blankets for your Sister Sue. She wants
them herself. – William Mary & the chil
dren are well –
There have been rumors of fighting for
some days here, and I think the Govt expected
a fight before this, but the last news from
the Army is that every thing is quiet [?]

I have as yet recv three letter two by

Give all the love they can receive to our
dear children from their father.
Write and tell me all about them. What they say
and what they do. Remember me to all our
friends most particularly Irma & Pa. Ma & Tim
& Holly – and do not forget to remember me
