My Predecessor in monthly waiting soon 'spied Me in the Crowd, & by his looks seem'd from a distance to bid Me welcome.

My Brother Charles attended Me to the Levee, & having got near His Majesty, We were amused by a long conversation He held with a Naval Officer - The topic was on Ships & on their different rates &c -- Much was said on the New 38 Gun Frigates one of which this Officer commanded - The Sailing of Ships was then discussed, & the Effect of lading Them, by which I learnt that some sailed better with weight before some when placed in the middle, & some
