[P.1]

        Clarksville March 24th 1864
        Thursday afternoon
I have just finished a letter of eight closely
written pages to Mr. Grigsby, and I am very tired, still
I must write a few lines to my beloved husband that
he may know we are all well, and anxious to hear
from him. Not one line have we gotten from you
since you left us and it is now nearly a fortnight,
I wish it was six months for then it would be
time for you to come home again. We have had
a heavy snow storm. Tuesday the snow fell the
whole day, and I was almost glad I was snugged
up in bed. Yesterday about day light one of those
attacks came on which was so dis[?] disrupting
that I have not yet recovered from the effects.
Monday I had to send for Dr. Camm, and I
think I may say from Friday night till Tuesday
dinner time I ate [crossed out] eat but one meal. I am still very
prudent and careful, live on frozen milk, or
rather snow cream. Milly sent me some that
was delicius yesterday. After that pain in the
pit of the stomach left me, the soreness went into
the right side of the stomach, and below the ribs there
was a hard lump. Dr Camm gave me a good
tumping and [?]ing, ordered pepper poultice
and sent some powders which I took. I am
going to try what a walk will do for me
this afternoon though I am as weak as a
chicken and very tired.
Charley has not [?] other you for he

put up his lipabout you yesterday or the
day before and called Pa pa. He called for
Milly constantly while I was sick.
Miss Agnew is at Sunnyside
Helen will soon be waiting for me
to walk.
Your devoted
Wife.
