The pencil annotation here, ?Jan 1811 is probably misleading. A version of this poem, but with several differences in content appeared in THE SPORTING MAGAZINE XXI 126 for March 1803, p.353, several years before Queensbury's death in 1811 as 'Elegy on the Supposed death of Old Q' In James Paterson's Contemporaries of Burns and More Recent Poets of Ayrshire (1840), 330-1, a more closely related version is attributed to Sir Alexander Boswell
