                                                                                Augusta Pa. Feb 25-1861

Wm [R.?] Galt Esqr

                        Norfolk Va

                                    Sir

                                                Dr Galt this day informed

me he had not been at Norfolk, as he had expected

but had [procured?] a paper of instruction, which I

prepared for him.

He [informed?] me that Dr [Capron?] is now with you

and if so his name should be [?] in the power

of Attorney.

I wrote you, as also a gentleman in Williams

burg, at the instance [of?] the Dr to obtain [any?] for

ward to me the [?] [?] of the [correct?]

[lines?] (being the children) of James Galt [?], any

also of the [present?] [lines?] (being the grand children) of

James Galt.

There is no doubt that proof of kinship was made

as to the children, but it is lost in the multipli

city of papers in the [land?] office and must be

[measured?], accompanied by the proof of the present

[lines?]—The [department?] requires [?] [?]

where it [can?] be made, and where [it?] [cannot?]

be [has?], official [certificate?] that there is no such

[evidence?] in the county in which the [ancestor?] are [of?]

[and?] the [?] line. The probate Judge or clerk

knows what I want,-- For instance, your father [line?] [?]

[an?] [a?] [?] in [Norfolk?] and his family still live [there?]

Now if [administration?] of his estate was [?], there

was proof made of his [death?], and that proof is of

[?] If his children [were?] [?] they [?] a

Guardian, [and?] of his appointment-- there is [?]

[If?] [there?] [was?] [no?] administration-[and?] no [guardian?]

the probate clerk can [easily?] certify the [pact?].

I am anxious to have this [evidence?] as well

[from?] Norfolk as [will?] [?], as I can do

nothing without it, and I [equals?] [?] to

have the power of attorney, as they must ac

company each other. Will you be good enough

to see that I get them?

Your father also had [lands?] in Ohio apart

[from?] his claims through his father, and it may

be his papers will throw some light upon [them?]

I have little knowledge of them, but I know the

lands are valuable.

With the highest regard I am sir

                                                            [?] yours &c
