Extract of a Letter from General sir Guy Carleton, New York 12th November 1782, to Lieutenant General Leslie, Commanding at Charlestown

"In consequence of information received yesterday from Governor Campbell that the Island of Jamaica is in imminent danger of a speedy attack, I have judged it expedient to send a Body of Troops there without delay. You will therefore make the necessary arrangements for sending to that Island, immediately after they Evacuation of Charlestown is completed, the 3rd, 43rd, 64th, and 71st Regiments, and the Companies of the 82nd, now under your Command.

The senior officer of those Corps, who is to take the Command of the whole, will proceed under Convoy of such shifts of war as the Admiral shall appoint, to Jamaica, and put himself under the orders of the officer Commanding the Kings Troops, on that Island.

You will make such arrange- -ments relative to the staff to go with this Corps as you may judge expedient.
