Having now gone over ye. various Supplies granted, & provisions made ^ addition underline by Parliament /underline /addition during ye. Reign of W. III. it will be proper to give a Short abstract of ye. debts & taxes as they stood in ye. beginning of 2.A. by doing which at ye. accession of every New Reign ye. continuation, encrease, & multiplication of ye. various branches of ye. Public Revenue will plainly appear, & ye. 1st. origin & encrease of ye. National debt will be shewn in one view.

Taxes may be divided Customs, Excise, & Inland Duties.

Customs comprehend those duties in general payable at ye. Custom House upon ye. importation of goods, but in a more limitted Sense of name is given note x wide 1st. Act. of Taxes Subsisting at ye. Revolution /note to ye. Subsidy of Tonnage & Poundage & under yt. title it Subsisted to ye. end of K. W. Reign, having been continu'd to 1706. by ye. 5th. money + Act of ye. 8th. & 9th. of that King note Cap. 19. /note unclear K. This therefore is ye. 1st. branch of ye. Customs.
