Philosophy is yc. knowledge of yc. powers and Connections of Nature with reasonings deduc'd from them; it is of two kinds viz, Natures which explains ye. different properties & opperation of body or matter; like Moral, which shews us our duty, or ye. Art of being virtuous and happy.

ye. latter is what we shall treat of; it is call'd on Art, & a Science, because it deduces there Rules from Man's natural condition, & proves it absolutely necessary to his real happiness.

ye. Object of this Art, is Man's duty in his several moral Obligations & capacities; its Office is to shew from whence these duties arise, & where they end; its intent is to make us happy, & it employs rules by which we may obtain it.

As all Arts deserve more or less esteem as they are more or less calculated for out happiness, so this Moral art or Science yc means by which we should be worse than ye. Brute Greak ought to be ye. Touch Stone by which we are to try all other arts.

Having settl'd ye. subject & end of this glorious Science, let us next see how it is to be prosecuted.
