Hobbes, who look'd on Mankind with an unfavourable eye, has taken a partial view of our nature, & has drawn a very odious picture of us. He pretends yt. next ye. desire of Self preservation ye. love of Glory & power is ye. governing passion of Man; & from these by an unnatural hypotheses, contrary to common experience he tries to deduce all ye. other passion yt. inflame ye. minds, & influence ye. conduct of men.
