1. Magdalen College was founded 1456. by Wm. Patten of Wainfleet in Lincolnshire, usually stiled Wm. of Wainfleet. He was educated at Winchester School, of which He was afterwards Master, then Provost of Eton College. advanced to the See of Winchester in 1447. and constituted Ld High Chancellor of England 1446.

This College is composed of a President forty Fellows, thirty Demies, a Divinity Lecturer, a Schoolmaster, an Usher, four Chaplains, an Organist, eight Clerks, and sixteen Choristers the numbers of Students amount to about 120.

The Bp. of Winchester is Visitor.

2. University College is said to have been founded by King Alfred 872. but in reality by Wm. Archdeacon of Durham in 1209. it was finally compleated by Dr. John Radcliffe who created the Eastern Quadrangle entirely at his own Expense, and settled £600. per annum for two travelling fellowships.

This Society consists of a Master twelve Fellows, seventeen Scholars, with other Students amounting in the whole to near 70.

The King is Visitor.

3. Queen's College was founded by Robt. Egglesfield a native of Cumberland and Confessor to Queen Philippa 1340. the present Edifice was begun by Sir Joseph Williamson about 1672. and compleated by Mr. Mitchell of Richmond

This College consists of a President Sixteen Fellows, two Chaplains, eight Taberders, from the Short Gown they wore, sixteen Scholars two Clerks, and forty Exhibitioners, eight Fellowships, and four Scholars, funded by Mr. Mitchell with Students amounting to 100. VIsitor Archbp of York.
