The land to be made very clean from Weeds, to be sowed with Sainfoin as early in March as the land can be prepared for it, a bushel of Seed is sufficient for an Acre. If the land is dry and fine, it will require little harrowing to cover the Seed; this is the most difficult operation; the Seed being very light is is difficult to cover it exactly; and the harrows must be heavy or the Seed will be buried too deep.

When the plants are about five or Six Inches above ground they should be set out regularly with an hand hoe, leaving the strongest plants at about Eight Inches distance every way from each other. Sainfoin succeeds best when sowed alone; it should be dressed most springs with fine powdered manure; coal ashes, soot, and such like are the most proper.

Cattle not suffered to feed on it for a couple of Years.

The continuing to hoe the Weeds every year will be of great benefit to the Sainfoin
