My Dear Adolphus, Nothing can give me more satisfaction than the hearing You are assiduous in Your Studies, as the exercise of Your mind must bring forth abilities that otherwise would lye unknown, and will point out how they may be best employed to Your credit and the advantage of others; besides the habit of Application really contributes to rendering life more pleasant and by guiding the mind to objects worthy of notice calms it and thus improves the judgement whilst it also makes the Man more amiable and raises him in the opinion of those whose testimony is deserving to be sought.
